Turning Potential into Performance

Executive functioning, academic accountability, and personalized support for high school and college students.

Personalized
Academic coaching

I’m Janelle Carter, an academic coach and educational counselor with a background in higher education advising, executive functioning support, and learning services.

I hold a Master of Education in Educational Counseling from the University of Southern California and completed academic coaching training through USC’s Kortschak Center for Learning and Creativity, a nationally respected program focused on executive functioning, learning, and student wellbeing.

For years, I have worked with high school and college students navigating academic pressure, executive functioning challenges, transitions, and increasingly demanding educational environments.

My approach is thoughtful, personalized, and relationship-driven — helping students build the systems, confidence, and independence needed for long-term success.

Supporting a Wide
Range of Students

Our coaching supports a wide range of students — from high achievers navigating rigorous academic environments to students managing executive functioning challenges, learning differences, anxiety, overwhelm, or inconsistent performance.

  • “I want to express my appreciation for your help these past few months in getting me settled into my academic schedule. Transitioning from high school to college is never an easy task, and I’ve certainly encountered my fair share of obstacles/challenges so far, but the clarity and reassurance with which you went about our academic meetings in June/July/August solidified my confidence that with proper organization and a positive mindset, my academics will not only position me in a good place to graduate but also find a career that I’ll be happy in.”

  • "I met with Janelle at the beginning of sophomore year at USC. I loved USC, but my low GPA put me at risk of dismissal. When I started working with Janelle my freshman year GPA was a 1.73. Janelle and I reviewed my work, identifying what was effective and what wasn't. I had a busy extracurricular schedule and was reluctant to give that up. Janelle helped me map out how I was spending my time and prioritize what was important. We accounted for all of my academic obligations first, then added in the extracurricular activities. I was able to see how I could balance my schedule. We also worked on study skills, including test preparation, reading skills, and note-taking. At the end of the first semester working with Janelle, I achieved a 3.85 GPA in a rigorous engineering program. Janelle helped me realize that I did not need to choose between being involved and doing well academically-- I needed better systems, and she helped me build them."

How I work

Students typically meet with me one to two times per week depending on their goals and level of support needs.

Sessions are individualized, collaborative, and focused on helping students build sustainable systems, stronger self-awareness, and increasing independence over time. Parent communication is tailored to each family while also encouraging greater student ownership and accountability.

Whether a student is seeking stronger organization, improved follow-through, better balance, or more personalized support, our work is thoughtful, strategic, and deeply individualized.
